WEEKLY  RECAP: COMMUNITY UPDATE

Save The Crew Updates

Columbus Crew Player News

The Crew exercised the contract options on eight players from the 2018 roster and reached a new contract agreement with defender Lalas Abubakar. The Crew exercised the options of goalkeepers Jon Kempin and Ben Lungaard; defenders Alex Crognale, Connor Maloney, Gaston Sauro and Josh Williams; and midfielders Luis Argudo and Niko Hansen. The team continues to work with Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys to complete a deal for defender Milton Valenzuela. Unfortunately, the club declined options on goalkeeper Logan Ketterer; midfielders Ricardo Clark, Mike Grella and Cristian Martinez; and forward Adam Jahn. They will all be missed. In addition Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen seems all but certain to complete a move to Manchester City, and may even be loaned elsewhere for the 2019 campaign. Continue reading Weekly Recap 11/28/18

MONDAY RECAP: COMMUNITY UPDATE

Save The Crew Updates

D.C. United vs Columbus Crew:

Federico ‘Pipa’ Higuaín and the Columbus Crew conquered D.C. United in their first home playoff game at Audi Field. Higuaín, scored a goal in regulation, one in additional time, and also slotted home his penalty kick. The penalty kick finish was a very familiar scenario for Columbus, as we progressed in the playoffs last year after a win at Atlanta. Zack Steffen once again stopped multiple penalty kicks. What can’t he do? Some fans traveled to D.C. for the game, but back home, local pubs were at capacity as Crew fans celebrated the away victory. Save The Crew allies including Endeavour Brewing, Land Grant, Platform and more hosted watch parties for the playoff game. Hope to see you all back at these establishments next Sunday! Where to Watch the Knockout Round

By Darren Van Paris, Aka “Rick”

Hello fellow Crew fans!

I hope everyone has had an opportunity to recover from the game this past Sunday and bask in the glory that your Columbus Crew SC men will once again be back in the MLS Cup Playoffs this Thursday. Despite the massive distractions that Gregg and the boys have had to deal with the entire year, they still found a way to get it done. Truly incredible right? Could’ve packed it in and nobody would’ve thought much of it other than 3 people on social media that want major changes at every bump along the way. Anyways, hats off to the entire staff and players who fought, scraped, and battled to get to this point. Continue reading Where to Watch the Knockout Round

TUESDAY RECAP: COMMUNITY UPDATE

Save The Crew Updates

2008 MLS Cup Anniversary:

As we know,  2018 marks the ten year anniversary of our first and only MLS cup victory. Goals from Ale Moreno, Chad Marshall, and Frankie Hejduk sealed the win for the Crew. On Saturday members from the 2008 championship team came to Mapfre to celebrate their anniversary. Players such as Gino Padula, William Hesmer, Frankie, and Duncan Oughton received their honors before running across the field to the Nordecke to celebrate – and to join in the “Save The Crew!” chants. These legendary players from Crew lore are a part of our club’s great history. Perhaps, in another 10 years we will celebrate the 2008 MLS Cup win AND the 2018 MLS Cup win. Save The Crew! Black and Gold Supporters in Nashville

On a Nashville September Tuesday night, three of our very own took the field for the USMNT. Columbus is the home of Dos a Cero so it was only fitting that the Crew’s Zack Steffen, Gyasi Zardes, and Captain Wil Trapp took a bit of that history to Nashville to represent the USA in their clash against Mexico. It was a clean sheet for Zack, a scary tackle for Wil, and a 1-0 victory for the Red, White & Blue.

Saprissa Rain or Shine

On Tuesday, our Columbus Crew took the field for an international friendly versus Deportivo Saprissa

…or, at least, they tried to. Mother Nature had other ideas, sending rain and lightning to hover over MAPFRE Stadium for two and a half hours. Despite it being a weeknight and “only” an international friendly, thousands of dedicated fans came to the stadium to support the team. Many hung around the whole time, finding ways to amuse themselves while they waited.

By now, you may have seen how Saprissa stayed loose during the rain delay.

Columbus Family Ties

“What would we do baby… without us?”

These words, lifted from the theme song to the based-in-Columbus 1980s TV show Family Ties, succinctly pose a loving, rhetorical question between family members. It’s a question so awful you never want to ask it, let alone think about the answer.
