A Slice of Nadine’s Crew

By Jo Rodgers

On our first visit to the Van Buren Shelter, the very first task we were given was to slice hams. A bunch of hams. We were told to cut the slices nice and evenly, about ¼” thick. It sounds simple, but you should have seen our slices. A few were beautiful; most were a lopsided parallelogram of meat. Ms. Nadine told us that the shelter desperately needed a slicer, and obviously we agreed, but that it was simply not a priority item in their budget. Continue reading A Slice of Nadine’s Crew

Judge Brown’s ruling

The show must go on! The PSV/MLS motion to dismiss was denied. Judge Brown released over 50-pages explaining his reasoning and stated, “planting oneself in the seats of the sports team’s home venue imbeds a common root that unites and sprouts a forest of fans growing from the same soil” [#RespectYourRoots #SaveTheCrew]. The next phase in the case is the discovery phase. However, with a sale close, it is likely that the course of the case will change soon. Continue reading Weekly Recap 12/12/18

Save The Crew Updates

Columbus Crew Player News

The Crew exercised the contract options on eight players from the 2018 roster and reached a new contract agreement with defender Lalas Abubakar. The Crew exercised the options of goalkeepers Jon Kempin and Ben Lungaard; defenders Alex Crognale, Connor Maloney, Gaston Sauro and Josh Williams; and midfielders Luis Argudo and Niko Hansen. The team continues to work with Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys to complete a deal for defender Milton Valenzuela. Unfortunately, the club declined options on goalkeeper Logan Ketterer; midfielders Ricardo Clark, Mike Grella and Cristian Martinez; and forward Adam Jahn. They will all be missed. In addition Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen seems all but certain to complete a move to Manchester City, and may even be loaned elsewhere for the 2019 campaign. Continue reading Weekly Recap 11/28/18

2008 MLS Cup Anniversary:

As we know,  2018 marks the ten year anniversary of our first and only MLS cup victory. Goals from Ale Moreno, Chad Marshall, and Frankie Hejduk sealed the win for the Crew. On Saturday members from the 2008 championship team came to Mapfre to celebrate their anniversary. Players such as Gino Padula, William Hesmer, Frankie, and Duncan Oughton received their honors before running across the field to the Nordecke to celebrate – and to join in the “Save The Crew!” chants. These legendary players from Crew lore are a part of our club’s great history. Perhaps, in another 10 years we will celebrate the 2008 MLS Cup win AND the 2018 MLS Cup win. Save The Crew! Earnie Stewart at Mapfre:

Earnie Stewart is the current general manager of the USMNT. He is in charge of finding a new head coach for the National team. As you have all heard, our own Gregg Berhalter leads the list of candidates for the job. Berhalter has been the head coach of Crew since the 2014 season. During his tenure, the team has appeared in one MLS Cup, two Eastern Conference Finals (winning one) and made three playoff appearances in four seasons. Gregg is well on his way on leading the Crew to a fourth playoff birth. Do you want to see Gregg take the opening as USMNT coach? Continue reading Monday Recap 9/24/2018
