Easy as 1, Crew, 3: Start a Supporters Group in Your City

By Zachaery Hatcher, Founding Partner of 3-1-Crew Chicago

When I moved to Chicago in 2013, I assumed the city was big enough that a club or group already existed for every imaginable interest. It’s not uncommon to see Ohio State and Ohio University apparel around my neighborhood, so I was surprised and disappointed to find myself watching Columbus Crew SC games alone at a bar. It was not until the 2014 playoffs that, after watching yet another game by myself in the back room of a bar, I noticed a fellow Crew fan had been watching the same game with his mostly disinterested roommate in the front room. I approached the two friends, introduced myself, and with a handshake, 3-1-Crew was born. I’m happy to say we’ve come a long way since, and we’ve learned valuable lessons along the way. My #SaveTheCrew Journey – Zach

By Zach Klein

On December 28, 2018, the City of Columbus and State of Ohio filed to dismiss our lawsuit against MLS and Anthony Precourt to make way for new ownership to take control of the Columbus Crew. But it was a long journey to get there for myself and our legal team.

After supporting the #SaveTheCrew movement in its earliest days as Columbus City Council President, I realized I was in a unique position to do so much more when I became the City Attorney in January 2018. And we picked up the fight right away in the City Attorney’s Office. Continue reading My #SaveTheCrew Journey – Zach

Bright New Day

The official ownership kickoff happened Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at an event in downtown Columbus with MLS commissioner Don Garber, Columbus civic and business leaders, and both the Edwards and Haslam families from our new, locally-based Crew ownership group. Some of us were there and it was very special to see our community efforts pay off with an all-new Columbus Crew that’s built on our special history and features deep Ohio roots.

It’s an inspiring time to be a Columbus Crew fan and this is poised to be a season-long celebration of the hard work that our entire community put in—hard work that now puts us in a better position than ever to be the model MLS team. Continue reading Bright New Day

A Slice of Nadine’s Crew

By Jo Rodgers

On our first visit to the Van Buren Shelter, the very first task we were given was to slice hams. A bunch of hams. We were told to cut the slices nice and evenly, about ¼” thick. It sounds simple, but you should have seen our slices. A few were beautiful; most were a lopsided parallelogram of meat. Ms. Nadine told us that the shelter desperately needed a slicer, and obviously we agreed, but that it was simply not a priority item in their budget. Continue reading A Slice of Nadine’s Crew
