MONDAY RECAP: COMMUNITY UPDATE
Save The Crew Updates
1) Save the Crew, Stadium Renderings:
Last Monday, the entire Save The Crew movement reached new heights. The team released their official renderings for the stadium at a Ten Thousand Pledges celebration with special guest, Dante Washington! This could be the future home of Columbus Crew SC and we hope it spurs creativity and conversation around what can be possible. The stadium sits just west of the Huntington Ball-Park, in the Arena District. These renderings are best viewed directly. Further analysis can also be found at NBC 4, ABC 6, 10TV, and Dispatch.
2.) Jonathan Dale GoFundMe:
As we know, fellow Columbus Crew SC fan Jon Dale was severely injured during an attack by Toronto FC Fans before the June 2nd game. We are happy to announce that an outpouring of support means the recovery fund is only a few hundred dollars away from the 15k goal! If you have not donated, please feel free to do so by signup up for the fund. It’s truly beautiful what our community, including Crew players, does for each other.
3.) The Return of Justin Meram:
Our very own Mesopotamian Lion has returned! Justin came on the pitch during the 60th minute to a roaring ovation (from fans and his visiting family). His attacking play sparked the team, as JM9 had several wicked curlers enter the box. As we have been accustomed to at home recently, we won again in stoppage time. Welcome home, Justin!
4.) School Supplies Drive:
The Save the Crew team hosted a back-to-school supplies drive at the tailgate on Saturday. The drive benefited local children at Livingston Elementary. We had a very generous carload of donations which included pencils/pens, backpacks, notebooks, and more! Huge thank you to anyone and everyone that donated!
5.) Festival Latino:
A group of 10 #savethecrew supporters volunteered at Festival Latino this past weekend. They talked to folks about our Project 2019, the current events regarding the Columbus Crew, and also how to get involved with the movement. While the majority of people have heard about #SaveTheCrew; some did not know anything about the situation. We hope to continue to make a presence at Festival Latino. The Columbus Crew is for the entire community of Columbus but it takes a community effort to ensure all know they are welcome. The ‘community’ aspect has been long forgotten by the current investor/operator group and we are trying to reset the trend.
A 1-0 WIN!
GYASI! The Columbus Crew win again at home, in stoppage time. A beautiful pass by Afful found Zardes perfectly in the box, to slot it home. This game winner continues the trend started by Trapp a few weeks back. We play on Sunday against the top team in the MLS, Atlanta United. Don’t forget the next home game on Saturday, September 1 at 8 pm vs NYCFC at MAPFRE Stadium.
Glory To Columbus
