Monday Recap 5/7/18

Fellow Columbus Crew SC fans: Welcome to the next edition of our Monday Recap. Today, I will discuss our upcoming games this week, an update involving the happenings in Austin, and finally, the game recap.

Columbus Updates

1. Two Games this Week: Our Columbus Crew will play twice this week, the first match is Wednesday night (5/9) @ 7:30pm against the Philadelphia Union. Land-Grant will have a happy hour starting at 6pm, so make sure you get to the stadium early!. The next match will be this Saturday (5/12) @ 7:30pm against the Chicago Fire. Chicago has been a long time rival of Columbus, and currently has former German international/ World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger in the starting eleven. Let’s see if we can keep this point streak going!

Austin Updates

1. PSV looks for MLS stadium agreement with city in June: PSV plans to have their proposal sent to the city of Austin on June 1st. Although the research and analysis of the site (McKalla) is not completely finished,  Dave Greeley has stated that ‘we think it works.’ The June 1st date is not an all or nothing deadline, however, with the ongoing litigation, time is of the essence. In terms of the city council, a potential stadium/ MLS team is not the only avenue being looked at. There is an equal effort analyzing the benefits of developing affordable housing in the McKalla site (1)

Game Recap

1. TIE 0-0: A tie has never felt so good! Despite Pedro Santos receiving a red (questionable) in the 15’, the boys still managed to have several great opportunities. The defense was heroic and played with a lot of heart. As I said before, the team is back at home Wednesday @ 7:30pm.
